Paris: Just a few months back, Microsoft was the king of software because of the robust platforms like Office and Windows. Both the platforms are still playing a great role in the daily lives of many people, But somewhere the platform struggled a lot as many users moved on to Android and iOS leaving Windows.
Seeing this, Microsoft took a larger step so as to be alive in the mobile market. The company has decided to take one of its flagship products and ship it preloaded to large number of tablets and phones. Yes! It has announced its partnership with number of manufacturers to ship Office apps to large number of devices in the next year.
Microsoft’s plan of action to be in the race:
The company was on the top of the list some time back and it doesn’t want to give up; so it has been planning some strategies that would keep them in the race. It’s being said that the company is releasing Office apps on Android and iOS platforms. It is also expanding its presence in several other platforms by signing the deal with Samsung, Dell and other regional firms to preload Office software on some Android devices.
Several major devices on Dell and others which are supposed to be released later this year will be pre-installed with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, OneNote and Skype. For several manufacturers, this deal will certainly enhance people’s experience on Android devices. For Microsoft, it’s like a part of company’s cloud-first and mobile-first vision. Actually, it is addressing the customer’s demand and providing them the top services readily.
Several Android smartphones to have Office apps:
On the other hand Samsung says that, it would also pre-install Office apps on the Android tablets within the first half of the year. But this happens when it is confirmed that OneDrive, OneNote and Skype will be preloaded on the new Galaxy S6 and S6 edge. If the Samsung devices come installed with Office apps, they will be having three Office 365 options like Business, Business Enterprise and Business Premium all of which come with Knox security.
These deals of Microsoft show that how it has been working with several hardware partners to render a rich experience through their scale. As said before, this is certainly a big step (cross-platform strategy) taken by Microsoft to make their services available for every person on every device.
This new partnership with Dell, Samsung and other smaller Android devices is really a huge step to compete with other platforms. The usage terms of Android prevent manufacturers from removing Google apps like Sheets, Docs and Drive entirely from the devices. But it looks like Microsoft is pretty sure that it would sway away the users from the alternatives by offering its Office services.
